10 killed in firing, blasts in Rawalpindi mosque

Ulema have now. I saw many of them incl. Allama Tahir ul Qadri, Mufti Taqi Usmani, Roet Hilal Committee's Mufti Muneeb and Fiqa Jafariya's Allama Hamid Ali Moosavi on GEO News today condemning this criminal act, quoting relevant verses from the Quran and rightly calling the killers *jahanami. *Fazlur Rahman also condemned the mosque attack..

Some sort of unanimous fatwa or decree (by all sects) against these barbaric Taliban w'd be nice but then in the current climate who would really want to to risk their lives? Those ulema who dared to speak out against them in the past were brutally murdered by these criminals

Re: 10 killed in firing, blasts in Rawalpindi mosque

I don't know why, but this attack has upset me more than the other ones. Probably cause of how incredibly sadistic it was. To openly fire like that, especially on the kids .... it makes my skin crawl.

Re: 10 killed in firing, blasts in Rawalpindi mosque

Rawalpindi: The Tehreeke-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has taken responsibility for Friday’s ghastly suicide attack on the Parade Lane mosque, saying the mosque was “demolished on the orders of Prophet Muhammad”.

TTP chief Waliur Rehman Mehsud told the BBC that the prime target in the attack were military officers, and warned about more such attacks on Army personnel in the near future.

“Our militants attacked the military officers (our primary target) and we will continue to attack the Army. The civilians killed in the attack were relatives of Army personnel and their deaths did not matter,” Mehsud said.

At least 39 people were killed and 45 others injured in the suicide attack carried out by three attackers.

According to media reports, two-star generals were among the people killed in the attack.

The Dawn reported that a colonel also died in the attack while several senior military officers, including a former vice army chief, retired general Mohammad Yousuf, were among the injured.

Prophet Muhammad ordered Rawalpindi mosque blast: Pak Taliban

Re: 10 killed in firing, blasts in Rawalpindi mosque

very, very sad.

but if someone should pay the price for the militancy and extremism that was systematically encouraged, it should be the military - and not the average civilians. after all, these Taliban are the army's creation. it was the genius, FA-pass generals who wanted "strategic depth".

just a day before this attack took place, two bashtard jarnails Asad Durrani and Aslam Beg were on TV and both were completely ambiguous on the Taliban issue. and became outright defiant and hostile when Talat casually mentioned the well known fact that these idiots were at one stage or another the military's allies. eventually they turned their guns on Talat instead of condemning these terrorist animals. with generals like these, who needs enemies? wonder if these two idiots still sit on the fence regarding the Taliban now that their own have been killed so brutally.

but I cannot believe the stupidity, arrogance, ignorance, treachery, and outright badmaashi that Asad Durrani and Aslam Beg displayed. if they still want to confuse the ppl by saying crap like they're own people just mad at us, then they should volunteer to go and talk to these naaraaz animals. but if they can't, then, they must stfu and sit at home collecting their pensions.

if this is how the retired senior officials of the military think - people who at one time shaped some of the most important policies of the military and the country - then God help us all.

until then, if the Taliban are going to kill someone, it should be the military. they created this monster and even today are hesitant to condemn these animals. disgusting!

Re: 10 killed in firing, blasts in Rawalpindi mosque

So another attack kills 2 at the mosque today. First it was Market and bazaars, then schools/colleges now they are targetting mosques. Anyone sees the trend??
I am trying really hard not to feel hatred, but one can't help get emotional about this. We NEED to show more support to our army that we stand by them. We all NEED to get more involved in educating ourself and others.

Pakistan militants attack Rawalpindi mosque

Suspected pro-Taliban militants launched an armed attack and a suicide bombing on a mosque in Rawalpindi on Friday, killing at least 39 people and wounding more than 80 others.

The attack began just after Friday prayers, targeting a mosque frequented by military officials in the Qasim market district.

Rawalpindi is Pakistan’s main garrison town and the mosque is located about 10 minutes’ drive from the Pakistan army’s general headquarters.

Officials said a lone suicide bomber had detonated a blast in the mosque and minutes later as many as five militants, who were apparently present in the compound of the mosque, began firing indiscriminately.

The attack has revived concerns over the safety of army personnel who are waging a campaign against Taliban militants in the south Waziristan region near the Afghan border. Officials said at least one army major general and a brigadier were among those killed. A former vice chief of the army, Mohammad Yusuf, was among those injured.

“This is a security lapse and it shows that there was a gap somewhere which allowed these people to go through” said Mehmood Shah, a former army commander, in comments on a Pakistani TV channel.

In October, pro-Taliban militants launched a daring attack on the army’s GHQ and took as many as 42 military personnel hostage. That episode ended after two days when **army commandos stormed the building **](Subscribe to read)where the hostages were being held. At least 23 people were killed in that attack, including 14 military personnel and nine pro-Taliban militants.

Intelligence officials said the latest attack once again underlined the difficulty of securing congested urban areas in a country where the militants are largely from the local population.

“You can put together as many layers of security as you want. But you will always face the difficult choice of creating a fool-proof cordon, especially in exceptionally busy urban areas” said an intelligence source. “Do we delay or stop people from going for their Friday prayers?”.

In recent months, senior intelligence officials have claimed that for each successful attack, there have been at least nine others that have failed because of timely intelligence warnings.

“The problem is that such attacks will keep on coming for some time to come. What is important is that they must be stopped or else the militants will just feel they are winning,” said one western defence official.

in a mosque??? what were these people thinking!!?

Should't this be in Pak affairs????

It is strange how the media is not asking tough questions in Pakistan ..... how did a couple of ARMED guys manage to get into a highly secure red (or is it green) zone !!!! It is absolute shame for Pakistan army .... they have been dealt a blow "inside" their own fortress.

This is when Interior minister had claimed that they had broken the backbone of these terrorists !!!!!! guess he has given up now ... last he was seen was trying to get fatwas issued against these terrorists ..... time for him to pack his bags oe atlast he should be sent packing !!!
