  • The (NON-)existence of Fawad Alam

The fittest player among Pakistani players as certified by Army training camp. Have been on a record-breaking spree in first class cricket as the captain of SSGC.

The latest record being the 2nd fastest Pakistani cricketer to reach 11000 runs:
    214 Hanif Mohammad
    237 Fawad Alam
    240 Shafiq Ahmed
    243 Misbah-ul-Haq
    246 Younis Khan

(Note that all of the rest have played more than enough international cricket).

But thats not enough for the Chief selector Inzi cuz apparently "boyz played well" in Asia cup. So when today the list of 17 players for Australia tour is announced, Fawad Alam is no where to be found.

What a Shame Inzi, what a shame!

When Misbahul Haq played his last Test for Pakistan, he was just 14 days shy of turning 43, but Fawad Alam at 32 is too old to play for Pakistan and the team needs young blood rather than timeworn artefacts, as per the current and all other coaches of the past.

Alam, with the experience of 149 first-class matches and 11,000-plus runs scored at an average of 55.77, cannot replace Imamul Haq (39 first-class matches, 44.48 average and only 2,060 runs) or Usman Salahuddin (103 first-class matches, 44.40 average and 6,573 runs) in the squad ? but why bother? He hasn?t been able to do that since 2009, when he played his last Test for Pakistan.

When Misbah and his partner in crime Younus Khan left Pakistan?s Test fray, team stumbled and dwindled, yearning for experience and maturity in the middle-order.

Alam, with a temperament which Younus believed in and a technique, as per his critics too defensive for ODIs and T20Is but perfect for Tests, was and should have been the order of the day for the longer format, but let?s not discuss that, because he has aged.

Let?s try one more stat. Alam is the only player in the top-50 of highest career averages in first-class cricket, right under one of India?s great Rahul Dravid, at the number 31 position. The second Pakistani in the list is legendary Javed Miandad, at the number 51 position, with an average of 53.37 in 402 matches.

Sri Lanka drubbing in two-Test series was an eye-opener for Pakistan. The then Sri Lanka captain may have called it a Shamanic blessing, but it was more a miscalculation by Pakistani selectors, or to be frank mere stupidity.

However, one who learns from his mistakes is smart and one who doesn?t is a Pakistani selector.

But why are we talking about Alam? He?ll never make it to the international team, because he?s old, four years older than 27-year-old, but young Salahuddin.

Also, he?s too slow, too conventional for limited-overs cricket, because he can?t hit big, bigger than Mohammad Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf do when they clear the boundary with utter ease and on so many occasions; he?s done and dusted, he is out, for good, forever!

Wait what? He can bowl too? Again, no one cares!

Wasn't Muhammad Irfan too old but still inducted to bowl until his injuries ruled him out?

As for domestic averages, haven't kamran and umar khatmal also performed well just to crash in overseas tours?
Perhaps, Pakistan needs scores of defeats for actual heads to roll but then Inzi bhai will always be a mullah bhai. I can't believe that I am related to him on my dad's side as a distant relative.

Yea thats why age was the sarcastic point in the shared article. They would use every excuse to keep FA out of the team. No matter how worse the team goes. Not sure if its the ego of Inzi or some other vendetta.

And now the young Hafeez is added to the squad! There is no shortage of excuses for Fawad. Too old, not experienced, too slow, etc. etc. only to be replaced by players who not only have inferior records but are also either older, inexperienced or even slower than Fawad. It can't just be the Karachi bias (even though that is a reality evidenced by the heartache a poster here have with Sarfaraz leading the side). How does one explain selection of Asad Shafiq? Maybe it is a little bit of everything and the fact that his father has a strong KCCA connection, so he actually has lobby politics working against him, like Shoaib Mohammad had faced in his time.

Humiliating record does not matter to you because all you need is keeranchi ka apna captain.
Pakistan in ODIs since November 2015 against England, Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand and India:
          Played 27
          Won 4
          No Result 1
          Lost 22

Sarfraz wasn't captain in November 2015 so blame the captain at that time. I was wondering how Pakistan played so many matches in one year.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Fawad!! But very sorry, you were born in the wrong city.

Despite scoring 168 on Test debut and having a First-Class average of 55.66, you were only given chance in 3 Tests for Pakistan.

Very disappointed in team selection by Inzamam. I remember he as captain had discarded Hafeez couple of time saying he is useless and can't learn.

Its a incompetent board overall. I was reading that when Harris Sohail injured his knees the team physio suggested him to call it a day and take retirement. Instead he went to UK and spend few months in rehab and then resumed Cricket. Only in Pakistan players are forced to take retirement so soon. Remember Abdul Razzaq.
