I bought this book last week...the price was reduced to very low. I needed it as a reference book for my kids...bought it as a historical reference rather than for its arty craftyness. But yeah...what a delight this book is!

A Journey into the World of the Ottomans: The Art of Jean-Baptiste Vanmour (1671-1737)

Jean-Baptiste Vanmour was one of the most important orientalist artist: this publication is the most comprehensive survey of his works. Orientalism can be defined as a historical and cultural event, which has been uniting various aspects of cultural life for a number of centuries literature, fine arts, architecture, music and philosophy. A vision of the East positive or negative based on imagination or historic facts, it has generated an exotic image in our consciousness, which has its own right to existence. The Franco-Flemish artist Jean Baptiste Vanmour (1671-1737) was the art-biographer of the XVIII century Ottoman Empire. He left a very important legacy pictorial evidences which can be considered as historical illustrations of all the aspects of XVIII century Ottoman life: from diplomatic ceremonies in the Ottoman court to everyday events of Istanbul multinational society.

      Re: Latest Book Buys

After reading so many psycho terms like 'delusion' on GS, this time while visiting Mr Old Book Shop collection, I bought two books by Rajendra Persaud:

      https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...Motivated_Mind

      https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...e_of_the_Couch

after buying those books (which the shop-owner said can be exchanged with other books upto half price), when I googled about the writer, I found:

Raj Persaud: TV psychiatrist admits plagiarism | Society | The Guardian

hareem01 you might have heard his name as he used to appear in morning show 'the This Morning sofa' hosted by some Richard and Judy.

Anyways, the books are interesting read (initial review after turning the pages and looking at the topics).

We grew up with Enid Blyton.

The Five Findouters & the dog.
and The Famous Five are her best work.
Why isn't the Dividend story among the featured threads?
