As Akif correctly pointed out, it is not permissible for a muslimah to undergo the journey of Hajj without a mahram simply becuase of the dangers that she may face along the journey or experience during the Pilgrimage.
The proof for this is the authentic narration of the Prophet(sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), when he was setting out for a war expedition with his Companions. One of the companions mentioned to the Prophet(saw) that his wife was going to travel for Hajj by herself, without a mahram. The prophet (saw) then ordered him to return to his wife and perform Hajj with her, rather than set out for the expedition ... and Allaah knows Best.
