      No, not your Mcburger variety.

What does it mean to belong to a 'burg(h)er' family ? i see this word used sometimes to describe a particular group within Pakistan ? Is it some sort of social elitist designation ? Is it those preppy dudes? Is it people who speak fluent English and think they are all that and then some because they are more "modern" than the rest of us? i come across this word sometimes and don't understand how it applies and under what contexts. What type of people are these ?

the wanna be oh so western types, who do a piss poor job of doing so anyways. Its the kind who has just been abroad on vacations but act as if they lived their entire lives in UK/USA.

This crowd acts like its all that and oh so western when they are in Pakistan, but then finally when they have to come abroad and deal with abcds, then they become very Pakistani

burgers are basically a caricature of an abcd

It's a derogatory term used for kids who do not show a rough tough attitude. It’s the same as calling someone to be from the ‘mommy/daddy’ family.

In the US the kids from the streets can use this term for their peers who come from suburbia.

ahmedjee.. mummy-daddy is different than a burger. mummy-daddy refers to someone who is not indpendent enough etc. Burger is used more for ppl who are stuck up and wanna-be western types.

Fraudz, both of you and Ahmad jee are saying the same thing and both of you are right.

Burger is used as synonym for mummy-daddy ppl. And what both of them reffers to is what you have explained.

In my view, to be more precise, it actually reffer to those guys and gals who are mentally under western influence and try to change their way of life to look like them, like changing pronunciation of English words and trying to look more western than even the westerners and will make strange sort of faces while talking in English and will try to assure u that they are more modern than the rest of ppl.

what teh diff between soemone pretending he is james dean versus someone pretending he is anil kapoor (god knows there are tons of them in karachi..or were rather) except that the james dean wanna be probably does not smell as bad.

Actually there is a difference, cuz the bollywood/lollywood inspired are actually acting like 'tapories' and the one inspired by the MTV actually acts like 'punks'. The ones we call burgers. But as a whole both the races are more prone to destroying our culture than anything else.

most people from Islamabad (not to be discriminatory against a city or anything) tend to be burger-ish.

and theres a distinction to be made between mummy-daddy and burgers. Mummy-Daddy is whats known in some circles as "green". Burgers are those who ape mtv, use the word 'dude' a lot, and usually have something to do with Islamabad.

Those who ape Anil Kapoor are known as arsewipes in our circle. Dunno if its a generally accepted term though.

^ haha. man that is some detailed analysis, ravage.

waisay would it be correct to say that all mummy-daddys are burgers while the opposite is not true necessarily?

sambrilian thanks, I try to spread my wisdom around.

Mummy Daddy is a catalyst for burgerness, but one may be mummy daddy without strictly belonging to the latter class. For instance I have come across mummy-daddy abcds, Mummy Daddy paindoos, and Mummy Daddy Nawab sahabs.

I see where you are coming from though. Most burgers from that particular region where they hail mostly from are indeed also Mummy Daddy. But, again, not to be discriminatory, my feeling is that this is because people from Islamabad tend to be Mummy Daddy

ps: most of my analysis is based on one Mr. Piracha, who hails from Islamabad. results may or may not be statistically significant.
